SoundInsulationTesting.com provides information and guidance on the UK Building Regulations requirement for sound insulation in residential buildings. New and refurbished residential buildings must achieve the performance standards set out in Approved Document E – Resistance to the passage of sound.

Building Control will request pre-completion sound insulation testing to be carried out to show that the building complies with Part E of the Building Regulations. Sound Insulation Testing is carried out on party walls and/or floors that have a separating function. Sound tests are completed between habitable rooms, i.e. bedrooms and/or living rooms. This is to ensure that the level of sound reduction across the separating wall or floor is sufficient that habitants of the building are not unduly disturbed by their neighbours through normal day to day activity.
